Easing into the Feral Woodsman Lifestyle, Chapter 9 of 18

Lets face it, in reality most jobs are boring as hell. If asked, most will respond with “I like my job”, meaning, they like the people they work with, sometimes, but the job itself is boring…the actual work. Many are paid a good wage for what they do and look forward to weekends to “live”. The job is robbing you of your life, but you have a family to support and in our culture this is what we do.Most will dream of a different life and go through the what ifs.
Making a serious choice like becoming a Feral Woodsman, in fact, has many layers. The one most could handle is a remote cabin in your chosen boonies location. The further back of beyond the better. If you can manage, pay cash for this hidden gem. Places like this are for sale all over the country, from the mountains to the woods, to deserts and swamps. Most are still very good buys. I know of places here in the high dez that are for sale for around 25 grand and less. Most need a little work, not over whelming. Most remote places have some degree of neglect.
This deal offers a great home base from which you can work into your life pattern as a Feral Woodsman. A good deal of these locations are off grid and have a well. Both are a good start to set yourself up. Many, today, have an on line business, and this could work for some income if you need it. Create a cottage industry making hand made items, from wood to metal. You will need a website of course. Hand crafted items are a big deal with many folks.
Don’t burn any bridges behind you, in case you wish to return to the slave labor you were trying to get away from. This allows for any error on your part. However, with a little luck and hard work you will be able to establish yourself other wise. If you start a business, don’t skimp or cheat anyone… do square biz. That way you will draw no attention from people you do not wish to meet . If you cannot make things yourself, sell items you can buy and resell. Most towns have a flee market or swap meet. You may go to town once a month or so to sell your items as well.
Another positive with this type of start is you can take a friend with you. That includes your family, though home schooling might be in order for the youngins’. In many ways, things do not change all that much and it is legal living like this. You draw no more attention, other than you might be looked on as a little strange or weird. However, people like this are found on the far out skirts of any small community, all over the world.
From your home base/cabin, you can venture out into the wild to learn your lay of the land….Time to establish a few spydy holes and develop a cache in strategic spots. You are going back to the beginning and learning to slow down and move like a Feral Woodsman, gathering your knowledge of the lands around you, until it all is like a small backyard. In your mind you’ll know every nook, brook and track. Find a fine well concealed location for a second home to build on with the natural resources available.
This type of Feral Woodsman can be more attractive to more folks rather than less and can befar easier to accomplish
